In the Autumn term, Year 3 looked at the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age in lots of different ways. In our Irresistible Learning, we created our own clay pots and cave paintings like the ones we were learning about. Whilst researching the Stone Age, we discovered a great deal about what life was like and how people lived. We even visited Stonehenge for our Marvellous Middle, so, inspired by some of our Learning 10 Behaviours (Collaboration; Enthusiasm; Reflective), we created our own Stonehenge model as a class!
In the Spring Term, Year 3 delved into the past to learn all about the Industrial Revolution. We had a Victorian dress-up day as our Stunning Start, reciting the Victorian school rules and writing times tables on slates with chalk! In our Irresistible Learning, we learned to sew and even created our own line of bunting using printing and sewing skills we’d been practising. We researched all about what life was like during the Industrial Revolution and how people in the Black Country were affected. We especially loved debating about whether living near a mine would be safe. The term was finished off with a trip to the Black Country Living Museum to see it all in action!
In the Summer term, Year 3 became knights and princesses for our Stunning Start, where we started learning all about the Normans. In Irresistible Learning, we’ve done lots of research – especially about William the Conqueror. We’ve been exploring castles – where they are, why they are there, how they are built…it’s very interesting! We’ve also started learning about collages and we’re creating a giant Bayeux Tapestry for our next display using this skill! Look out for it!
We love inviting parents/carers to come in and spend an afternoon with us to help with projects, so please keep an eye out for the next invitation!
